Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL – The Kane County Cougars began a seven-game road trip Thursday night in Clinton with a 4-3 loss to the LumberKings. The Cougars lost a 3-1 lead after two unearned runs in the seventh, and the game-winning run scored on a wild pitch. Myron Leslie's two RBI led the offense.

Cougars Jared Trout didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, and the Cougars spotted him a 2-0 lead in the third. Ryan Ruiz walked, Javier Herrera singled and the men moved to second and third on a grounder. Leslie's two-run single ensued for an early Kane County advantage. Kevin Melillo had an RBI double in the sixth to score Eddie Kim for a 3-0 game.

Trout left after six innings. He allowed his only run on a sacrifice fly in his last frame of duty. The right-hander allowed three hits, walked none and fanned three. J.R. Pickens allowed the two unearned tallies in the seventh for a tie game, and Jose Corchado walked two men, issued one intentional walk and fired a wild pitch for the game-ending run and a 4-3 Cougars defeat.

Corchado (0-1) took the loss, and Chris Jaile (1-1) won it for Clinton. Game two of the series is Friday night at 7 CDT. Ryan Webb (3-5, 3.86) goes for the Cougars (25-34) against John Bannister (4-5, 3.97) for the LumberKings (33-27).
