Devil Rays turn the power on with three homers in win
June 9, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The combination of three home runs by the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays and another strong eight inning performance from Andy Sonnanstine paved the way in a 4-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps Thursday night.
Francisco Leandro, Patrick Breen and Fernando Perez each hit solo home runs for the Devil Rays in building the lead. Whitecaps starter Andrew Kown surrendered all three home runs and now leads the Midwest League with 10 in that category.
The only blemish on Andy Sonnanstine's mark tonight was a solo blast from West Michigan's Brent Dlugach. Sonnanstine, who was named a Midwest League All-Star earlier this week, allowed six hits, one run and struck out eight with no walks.
The game was televised all over Michigan on Comcast Local Channel 96. It was the first televised baseball game at C.O. Brown Stadium since 1996.
The Devil Rays will face West Michigan on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Brandon Mann (4-5, 4.52) will go for the Rays against Matt Righter (3-0, 2.08) for the Whitecaps.
