Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A night removed from throwing a shutout, the Albuquerque Isotopes (56-51) yielded 10 runs as the Omaha Storm Chasers (57-49) cruised to a 10-1 victory Friday night at Werner Park.

Ultimately, it was the long-ball that ended up spelling doom for the ‘Topes and the tone was set early with a solo homer by David Lough in the bottom of the first that put the Chasers up 1-0 after one inning.

The ‘Topes matched Lough's blast in the third on a solo homer by Justin Sellers that briefly knotted the game at 1-1, but Omaha got the run right back in the bottom of the frame when Lance Zawadski walked, stole second, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a sac fly by Johnny Giavotella to give the Storm Chasers a 2-1 edge. After Isotopes starter Mike Parisi loaded the bases on two walks and a single, the right-hander departed for Ramon Troncoso, who promptly gave up a grand-slam home run to Salvador Perez, making the score 7-1 Storm Chasers.

Omaha was far from finished, scoring three more times in the seventh. With two out and a man on second, Clint Robinson roped a single to center, scoring Giavotella and increasing the home team's lead to 8-1. Kila Ka'aihue then walked in front of the night's designated ‘Topes-killer Perez, who smashed a single to center, plating Robinson for his fifth RBI on the evening. Finally, Irving Falu capped the scoring with an RBI single, easily scoring Ka'aihue and increasing the cushion to 10-1 Storm Chasers.

Meanwhile, a quartet of Omaha pitchers shut the Isotopes offense down to just one run on six hits. Starter Sean O'Sullivan (3-2) cruised to victory after allowing one run on three hits in six innings while walking two and striking out five before handing off to relievers Kelvin Herrera, Everett Teaford, and Robinson Tejada, who each authored a scoreless inning apiece to seal the 10-1 victory.

Parisi (1-1) took the loss for Albuquerque, surrendering six runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three.

One of the few bright spots for the Isotopes was provided by Jay Gibbons, who extended his current hitting streak to 14 games with a pair of singles in four at-bats.

The ‘Topes will now head to the Big Easy for a four-game set against the division-rival New Orleans Zephyrs. Right-hander Tim Sexton (3-5, 6.98) makes the start for the Isotopes against Z's righty Adalberto Mendez (1-7, 7.19) in a 5:00 PM MT start from Zephyr Field.

Albuquerque will return to Isotopes Park next Wednesday to start another eight-game homestand against the Tacoma Rainiers and Salt Lake Bees which includes a slew of great giveaways like Orbit Banks and Isotopes Hats as well as a fireworks extravaganza. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
