Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers could not quite complete a late-inning rally and suffered a 5-4 loss to the Sacramento River Cats in front of 5,679 fans at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.

Tacoma, trailing the River Cats 5-3, attempted a come-from-behind effort in the bottom of the ninth. Outfielder Mike Wilson singled to lead off the inning and then scored on a Johan Limonta single in the next at-bat to put the Rainiers within a run.

Matt Tuiasosopo singled and Ralph Henrqiuez hit sacrifice bunt that placed runners on second and third base with one out. But the next batter, infielder Kyle Seager, flied out into a double play that ended with Limonta out at home plate.

The River Cats lead was as large as four runs following Chris Carter's RBI-triple that scored Kevin Kouzmanoff in the fourth inning. Carter ended the night collecting three hits with a pair of runs scored.

The outfielder Limonta was one of two Rainiers to turn in a multi-hit outing after collecting a pair of singles and tied a season high with three RBI.

Sacramento's Carlos Hernandez turned in a 6.1-inning start, allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts to collect the win. Right-hander Scott Eyre earned his ninth save of the season despite allowing one run on three hits over one inning of work in the ninth.

Starter Nate Robertson (3-4) was dealt the loss for the Rainiers after the left-hander surrendered four runs, three earned, on nine hits over 4.2 innings.

The Rainiers (52-54) return to action at 7:05 p.m. on Friday to play the club's series finale against the River Cats. Left-hander Mauricio Robles (1-1, 9.00) is scheduled to start for Tacoma. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
