
Isotopes' Rally Falls Short, 14-11

Albuquerque, NM - The Isotopes fell behind Sugar Land, 11-0, and then stormed back with seven runs in the seventh but their rally fell short by a score of 14-11 Sunday night at Isotopes Park.
With the loss, the Isotopes split the six-game series with the Space Cowboys.
Offensively, the Isotopes tallied 13 hits, one triple, four doubles and two homers. Wynton Bernard and Dom Nuñez each recorded three hits while driving in two and four runs, respectively. Nuñez also blasted a three-run homer. Alan Trejo had two hits while Coco Montes had two RBI on a two-run homer. Bret Boswell also drove in a run. The Isotopes left 10 men on base and went 5-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
The Space Cowboys got on the board with a four-spot in the second inning, including a three-run homer by Yainer Diaz. They added a run to the tally in the third, giving them a 5-0 advantage.
Sugar Land took a commanding 11-0 lead in the fifth inning, plating six runs. However, the Isotopes chipped away at the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nuñez hammered a three-run homer while the other run came around on an error.
Two innings later, Sugar Land plated three more runs to extend their lead to 14-4. Albuquerque then combusted for seven runs in the seventh to make the score 14-11. Montes hit a two-run clout, Boswell doubled home a run, Bernard smoked a two-run triple, Nuñez grounded home a run and the final run came home on a wild pitch.
Zach Neal was charged with his fifth loss of the year after allowing eight runs on six hits, five walks and two homers.
Topes Scope: - The Isotopes plated seven runs in the seventh inning-matching the most runs scored in an inning this year (June 15 vs. Salt Lake).
-It was the 82nd game in team history both clubs scored double-digit runs. The Isotopes are 42-40 overall and 36-33 at home in such contests.
-Albuquerque relented 14 runs on the year, tied for the third most this season (five times).
-Isotopes pitching allowed five homers-tied for the third-most allowed in a game this year.
-Albuquerque is now 2-6-5 over 13 series this year and 2-1-4 at home.
-The Isotopes fell to 7-7 in series finales and 4-3 at home.
-Through 20 games played on either July 3 or 4, the combined attendance is 295,397, averaging 14,769 per game.
-Tonight's attendance of 12,593 is the fifth time the Isotopes have eclipsed 10,000 fans this year.
-Albuquerque had the highest attended games in all of MiLB Saturday and Sunday.
-Albuquerque has 119 home runs this year-the most in all of MiLB.
-The Space Cowboys plated 55 runs over the six-game series-the most scored against the Isotopes in any series this year.
-Sugar Land swatted 17 homers-tied for the most homers against the Isotopes this season in a series (Sugar Land, May 10-15).
-Over 18 games against the Space Cowboys, they have belted 44 homers.
-Bernard stole his 18th base of the season. He has been caught just once this year and three times since last season (41-for-43). Bernard also recorded his team-leading 24th multi-hit effort of the year, including four in his last five games. He also registered a triple-his sixth of the year which is the most in the PCL.
-Brett Matthews made his Triple-A debut and tossed 0.2 innings and did not allow a run while walking two.
-Sam Hilliard has struck out at least once in his last six games and nine of his last 10. He also reached base three times (two walks and a hit) for the second time in 12 games, one off his season-high.
-Nuñez connected on his first homer since June 23, 19 at-bats. He also tallied four RBI for the first time since May 1, 2021, with Colorado at Arizona and his second three-hit game of the year.
-Trejo extended his hit streak to 13-games-the second-longest streak by an Isotopes player this year (Elehuris Montero, 14). It is also the second-longest active hitting streak in the PCL. During the streak, he is 18-for-54 (.333) with five doubles, three homers and nine RBI.
-Neal set a career-high with five walks and tied the most in a game for an Isotopes pitcher this year. He also allowed at least two homers and five-plus runs for the fourth time.
-Sugar Land scored six runs in the fifth inning-it is the eighth time a team has plated six runs in an inning.
On Deck: The Isotopes will travel to Round Rock to begin a six-game series against the Express tomorrow at 6:05 pm MT. José Ureña is expected to start for Albuquerque while Cole Winn is slated to toe the rubber for Round Rock.
