Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) - The Sugar Land Space Cowboys scored in double digits for the third time in four nights - and belted another five homers - in a 14-11 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Sunday night.
Yainer Diaz hit two longballs, with Jose Siri, Corey Julks and David Hensley each homering as well, giving the Space Cowboys a split of the six-game series.
HIGHLIGHTS: 7.3 vs. ABQ
The Space Cowboys have hit .325 (49x151) with 14 home runs over their last four games.
Diaz helped spark a four-run third to get Sugar Land on the board with a three-run homer. Diaz has two homers in his last four games and four through his first 11 games with the Space Cowboys.
Siri followed the next inning with a solo shot that left his bat at 112.8 mph and traveled 407 feet over the left-field wall at Isotopes Park. Siri has hit .348 (8x23) with four home runs and eight RBI through five games with the Space Cowboys this year.
The Space Cowboys tacked on six more runs in the sixth. Enmanuel Valdez just missed a home run with a ground-rule double that hit midway off the right-field wall. Scott Manea followed with a two-run double, and David Hensley drove in Manea with an RBI single.
Julks put the exclamation point on the inning with his team-leading 17th home run of the year. Julks is third in the Pacific Coast League and tied for fifth of all Triple A players in home runs.
Brandon Bielak made his first appearance since being optioned to the Space Cowboys from the Astros on June 27. Bielak struck out three batters through 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Layne Henderson, who was assigned to the Space Cowboys from Double A Corpus Christi on Saturday, made his Triple A debut, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Ronel Blanco worked a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the year.
Dom Nuñez helped lead the Isotopes offense, hitting a three-run homer in the sixth - his third longball of the year. Coco Montes delivered his ninth home run of the year, with a two-run shot in the seventh. Montes' homer came as part of a seven-run seventh for Albuquerque.
The Space Cowboys open a six-game homestand against the El Paso Chihuahuas at 6:05 p.m. on Monday at Constellation Field. Forrest Whitley is scheduled to make his Space Cowboys debut, with El Paso to start Pedro Avila.
