Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes have named the 2010 Isotopes Player's Choice Awards, as chosen by their fellow teammates and coaching staff while the fans cast their votes for the fan favorite and the Isotopes front office selected the Most Community-Minded Player. Russ Mitchell claimed team MVP accolades, while reliever Juan Perez was named Pitcher of the Year, John Lindsey was the PNM Power Hitter of the Year and selected Fan Favorite, Jamie Hoffmann took Defensive Player of the Year and Mr. Hustle honors, and J.D. Closser was named the team's Most Community-Minded player.

MVP: Russ Mitchell- IF Mitchell ranks among the team and Pacific Coast League leaders with 22 homers and 83 RBI while also adding 37 doubles, 151 hits, 61 extra-base hits, 258 total bases, 93 runs scored, and a .323 batting average, all of which ranks among the top five in PCL in each respective category. In addition to his impressive exploits at the plate, Mitchell, in just his first season at the Triple-A level, has established himself as one of the League's best third baseman, ranking first among all PCL third-sackers with a fielding percentage of .964.

Pitcher of the Year: Juan Perez The left-handed reliever has been dominant for the Isotopes, recording a 4-2 record with a save and a 3.12 ERA in 41 appearances, third most on the team. In May, Perez posted 13.0 consecutive scoreless innings and this year has held opposing left-handed hitters to a .205 batting average.

Defensive Player of the Year: Jamie Hoffmann- OF The in-play grass berm in center field at Isotopes Park might as well be re-named "Hoffmann's Hill" after how well the outfielder has played it this season, making one spectacular play after another. Entering play today, Hoffmann had played 114 games in center, more than anyone else in the PCL this year, while also recording six outfield assists. On July 26, Hoffmann made what might be the most spectacular catch in Isotopes Park history, robbing Nashville's Matt Gamel of a home run after making a leaping grab over the fence at the 400 sign in straightaway center field.

PNM Power Hitter: John Lindsey- IF Despite missing a nearly a month with a strained calf muscle, John Lindsey has still put up impressive power numbers, entering play today leading the team in homers with 23 and RBI with 87. In the month of May alone, Lindsey hammered seven homers while driving in 25 in just 27 games.

Mr. Hustle: Jamie Hoffmann- OF To be known as "Mr. Hustle," you have play virtually every day, a qualification that certainly fits Jamie Hoffmann, who entering play today logged a team-high 129 games, third most in the PCL. The outfielder not only played a lot, but played well a lot, batting .310 with a League-leading 156 hits in a PCL-high 503 at-bats.

Most-Community Minded Player: J.D. Closser- C In addition to being the team's most versatile player, seeing action at five different positions this season, J.D. Closser consistently showed he had one of the squad's biggest hearts, routinely volunteering for youth skills clinics and other various player appearances throughout the city of Albuquerque. When a sign-up sheet was placed in the clubhouse looking for a player to make community appearance, invariably Closser's was the first name on it.

Fan Favorite: John Lindsey- IF With a smile as large as his Pacific Coast League-leading .361 batting average heading into today's play, it's no surprise that Isotopes fans almost instantly gravitated to John Lindsey, bestowing him with their Fan Favorite Award. Win or lose, Lindsey always took time to sign autographs and give high-fives as he walked into the third base tunnel, endearing himself to the 'Topes faithful.

The Isotopes' continue their mammoth 14-game homestand with one final battle against the Oklahoma City RedHawks before the Iowa Cubs come to town for five games in four days beginning Monday. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
