Round Rock Express News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mark Hamilton was 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBI in leading the Memphis Redbirds to an 11-3 victory over the Round Rock Express is Sunday's series finale at AutoZone Park. The Express (55-81) suffered their second series sweep of the season, both of which occurred at Memphis. The Redbirds (77-59) claimed the season series 12-4.
After being shutout in each of the previous three games, Round Rock scored a run in the first inning to snap a 29-inning scoreless streak. J.B. Shuck walked to open the game, and Matt Downs followed with an RBI double.
However, that was the only lead the Express would enjoy and it was short-lived. Daniel Descalso doubled with one out in the bottom of the first, and Nick Stavinoha followed with an RBI single. Hamilton then clubbed the first of his two home runs, giving the Redbirds a lead they never relinquished.
Memphis starter Brandon Dickson (11-8) earned the victory; he allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
Express starter Shane Loux (5-12) took the loss, surrendering 10 runs - six earned - on 12 hits and no walks with one strikeout over 4.0 innings. It was his first loss since Aug. 2, snapping a three-decision winning streak.
James Rapoport delivered an RBI single in the second, pushing the Memphis lead to 4-0. Stavinoha, Hamilton and Ruben Gotay had consecutive doubles to open the third, accounting for two runs. The Redbirds added a run-scoring double play. Hamilton produced his second home run in the fourth inning, a three-run shot. Adron Chambers capped the scoring for Memphis with an RBI single in the sixth.
Collin DeLome hit a one-out solo homer in the top of the fourth, and Matt Kata scored on a wild pitch in the ninth. The Express were out-scored 26-4 in the series.
Shuck had the lone multiple-hit game for the Express, going 2-for-4. Stavinoha was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Descalso, Gotay and Chambers all had two-hit games.
Round Rock begins its final road series of the season Monday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Omaha. Left-hander Andy Van Hekken (7-7, 4.03 ERA) will start for the Express, while lefty Blaine Hardy (2-4, 3.12 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Royals.
