Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (44-57) attempted a late rally in the ninth inning, but the Fresno Grizzlies were able to hold on to defeat Albuquerque 6-2 on Sunday evening.

The Grizzlies jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning, highlighted by Jon Kemmer's two-run triple to right field. Jon Singleton extended Fresno's lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning with an RBI double off the center field wall. The Grizzlies final two runs both came in the eighth inning on Andrew Aplin's RBI single and Tony Kemp's sacrifice fly to left.

Albuquerque's offense came alive in the ninth inning collecting four hits including an RBI single from Mike Tauchman. Tim Smalling drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to score another run. Pinch hitter Alex Castellanos stepped to the plate representing the tying-run, but grounded out to second baseman Chan Jong Moon, who was shifted up the middle, to end the game.

Chris Rusin made his third rehab start with Albuquerque, pitching 3.2 innings while yielding four hits, three runs, and striking out five.

The Isotopes conclude their series in Fresno tomorrow night. Right-hander Christian Bergman (1-2, 4.84) gets the nod for the Isotopes, while the Grizzlies will send right-hander Joe Musgrove (4-3, 3.98) to the bump. First pitch from Chukchansi Park is slated for 8:05 p.m.
