The Fresno Grizzlies held on to beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-2 Sunday afternoon from Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Brady Rodgers (9-3) impressed for seven shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out four. Albuquerque starter Chris Rusin (0-1) suffered the loss after throwing three and two-third innings, allowing three runs (earned), on four hits, walking one and punching out five. The Grizzlies' spanked 12 hits in the win.
Fresno spotted three runs in the bottom of the first. Jon Kemmer (1-for-3) yanked a triple to right, knocking in two runs. Then, Tyler Heineman (4-for-4) laced a single to center, scoring Kemmer. It was 3-0 after one inning. The Grizzlies made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Jon Singleton raked a double off the wall in center, scoring Tyler White (1-for-3). The lead extended to 6-0 in the bottom of the eighth when Andrew Aplin singled to right, knocking in Colin Moran. Then, Tony Kemp hit a sacrifice-fly to left, scoring Chan Jong Moon (2-for-4).
The Isotopes erased the shutout in the top of the ninth when Mike Tauchman lasered a RBI single to center. Then, a bases-loaded walk added a second run. Fresno held on to win 6-2.
Grizzlies' closer James Hoyt picked up his PCL-leading 26th save after recording the final out with the bases-loaded.
Rodgers pulled into a third-place tie for wins in the PCL (nine in 16 starts), while lowering his earned run average to 2.68.
The two teams meet for the finale Monday night from Downtown Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Albuquerque RHP Christian Bergman (1-2, 4.84) toes the rubber with Fresno RHP Joe Musgrove (4-3, 3.98).
