Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (19-21) exploded for five home runs in a 14-8 victory against the Fresno Grizzlies (19-22) Thursday night at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, Calif.

THE TURNING POINT: The Grizzlies never stood a chance as the Isotopes plated five runs in the top of the first inning. Mike Baxter led off the game with a double and scored on a Carlos Triunfel single. With two outs, back-to-back singles from Clint Robinson and Alex Guerrero preceded a two-RBI base hit from Tim Federowicz. Just one batter later, Jamie Romak mashed a two-run home run toclear the bases and cap the scoring in the first.

GOING, GOING, GONE: Albuquerque belted a total of five home runs on the night. Romak got the Topes rolling with a two-run blast in the first inning. Joc Pederson and Guerrero each hit their first of two homers in the game during the second inning. Guerrero added his second shot in the fifth, while Pederson tagged his second homer of the evening in the sixth inning. It was Pederson's 12th and 13th long balls of the season, which ranks second-most in the Pacific Coast League. Romak hit his 10th, and Guerrero hit his fifth and sixth.

SCORE EARLY, SCORE OFTEN: After scoring five runs in the first inning, Fresno scored three in the bottom half, but Albuquerque never let up with a four-spot in the second inning. The Topes got their offensive machine rolling again for single runs in the fifth and sixth before adding a three-run inning in the seventh.

NO FREEBIES FROM FRIAS: Making only his third start at the Triple-A level, right-hander Carlos Frias settled in for a much-needed solid outing for Albuquerque. After allowing a trio of runs to cross in the first inning, Frias regained control and finished with 5.1 innings of work, allowing 11 hits, six runs, six strikeouts and - most notably - zero walks.

HIT FOR YOU, HIT FOR YOU, EVERYBODY GETS A HIT: Every player in the Isotopes starting lineup picked up a hit in the game, including the starting pitcher Frias. Six Topes even picked up multiple hits, including a team-high three hits from Baxter, Guerrero and Trayvon Robinson. Frias' hit was only the second base hit by an Albuquerque starting pitcher this season.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Grizzlies will play game two of their four-game set Friday at 8:05 p.m. MT. Right-handed pitcher Red Patterson (2-2, 5.12 ERA) will take the hill for the Topes, while Fresno will counter with righty Chris Heston (3-2, 3.40 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After this trip to Fresno, the Isotopes will travel Salt Lake to face the Bees and cap its season-longest 12-game road trip beginning May 19. The Isotopes return home May 23 to face the Reno Aces at 7:05 p.m.
