Islanders Turn the Tides in Decisive Victory over Titan
October 12, 2018 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
To steal a quote from rapper Lil Sean, last night the Charlottetown Islanders took an L, but tonight they bounced back, defeating the Acadie-Bathurst Titan by a score of 4-1 in a decisive road victory.
At no point in this game would Titan netminder Mark Grametbauer catch a break, as the Islanders peppered the overage goalie from the outset of the game. Liam Peyton finally cracked Grametbauer midway through the first period, corralling a big rebound and burying the puck in a wide-open net to make it 1-0 Charlottetown.
The Islanders' newest acquisition would get in on the action just a few minutes later; William Sirman would extend the Islanders lead with his first goal as an Islander. Charlottetown would take that 2-0 lead into the second period after firing 17 shots in the first.
The barrage would continue through the second period. While the Islanders wouldn't add to the lead, they'd put shot after shot on Grametbauer, ultimately ripping 19 shots before the period ended, in comparison to the 3 that Islanders netminder Matthew Welsh faced from the Titan.
The Islanders would finally beat Grametbauer once again in the third period. Hunter Drew would receive the pass from Derek Gentile in the slot and sniped the puck past the Titan goalie for his second goal in as many games.
Evan MacKinnon would get the Titan on the board with 8 minutes remaining in the third, but it was not enough. Daniel Hardie would add an empty netter late in the third, putting the game on ice for the Islanders.
The final shot count heavily favoured the Islanders, 49-23. Matthew Welsh stood tall when he needed to, and the Isles leave Bathurst with two points.
Hunter Drew finished the game with a goal and an assist. With his fourth goal of the season, Daniel Hardie moved past Keith Getson for the team lead in goals.
The action doesn't stop this weekend for the Islanders, as they come back to the Eastlink Centre on Sunday to take on the Saint John Sea Dogs at 3:00pm on Family Day. Kids 12 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket (1 adult ticket = 1 free kid under 12), there will be a Fun Zone in the Trade Centre before the game, and there will be a family skate and autograph session with the Islanders after the game!
Tickets can be purchased as always at the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online at https://boxoffice.eastlinkcentrepei.com. We'll see you Sunday!
