
Late Flurry as Mooseheads Blank Sea Dogs

The Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-0 on Friday night in Saint John. Saint John is now 2-5-2-0 while Halifax sits stop the Maritimes Division with a record of 7-2-0-0.
The Sea Dogs came out with energy in the 1st period out shooting the Mooseheads 10-9. Luke Wilson was called for a four minute high sticking penalty at 3:26 of the first but Halifax couldn't convert. Anthony Boucher had a short handed breakaway but Halifax net minder Cole McLaren came up big, stopping William Poirier on two follow up chances as well. Alex D'Orio was solid as usual with several stops on the penalty-kill to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
Halifax broke the shutout at 2:40 of the second on a two-on-one when Brock McLeod elected to keep the puck and flicked a wrister past D'Orio. Tyler Higgins was called for a kneeing penalty at 14:51 of the period but the Dogs were able to keep the Mooseheads at bay, and the game within one. Shots on goal in the second were 13-8 Halifax.
The third saw the Mooseheads build momentum with three quick goals to open the period. Raphael Lavoie scored his eighth of the campaign unassisted at 0:17, followed by Xavier Parent who added a power play marker at 2:47. 13 seconds later Samuel Asselin netted his own on a feed from Marcel Barinka for a final score of 4-0.
Alex D'Orio made 34 saves for Saint John while Cole McLaren was a perfect 24/24 on the night.

The Sea Dogs will play in Charlottetown on Sunday at 3pm. Listen to the game at sjseadogs.com/live. Saint John's next home game will be Saturday, October 20th as they host their annual Pink in the Rink night. Pink game worn jerseys will be raffled off during the third period with proceeds going to breast cancer research.
