Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (December 15, 2011) - The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Calvin de Haan and goaltender Kevin Poulin have been recalled on emergency loan from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The transactions followed injuries to defenseman Steve Staios and goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. The club also placed goaltender Rick DiPietro on injured reserve with a left groin injury suffered on Dec. 3.
The Islanders selected de Haan in the first round, 12th overall, of the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. In 22 games this season with the Sound Tigers, the rookie defenseman has two goals and six assists. A native of Carp, ON, de Haan played three seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, serving as captain in his third year. On the international stage, de Haan represented Team Canada, winning a silver medal at both the 2010 and 2011 World Junior Championships.
Poulin, 21, leads all Sound Tigers goalies with six wins this season. The Montreal, QC, native has a 3.37 goals against average and a .892 save percentage in 13 appearances. Poulin has already served as a backup goalie for the Islanders during three games this season. He appeared in 10 games last season with the Islanders, posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.44 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. The Islanders selected Poulin in the fifth round (126th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
