Adam Cracknell Named Rivermen Captain

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jared Bednar announced Thursday that forward Adam Cracknell has been named captain of the team for the 2011-12 season. He had been one of six players that had been serving as alternate captains on a rotating basis since the start of the season.
Bendar has also announced that T.J. Hensick and Jonathan Cheechoo will serve as alternate captains at home while Brett Sterling and Brennan Evans will handle those duties during road games.
"You go through tough times as a team and you see who your leaders are, who steps up," Bednar said. "Adam Cracknell has kept his game at a high level more consistently than anyone, and you need that."
Cracknell, 26, is in his third season with the Rivermen and sixth in professional hockey. He last served as captain of a team in 2005-06 when he led the Western Hockey League's Kootenay Ice to a Western Conference Championship. A veteran of 370 professional games, Cracknell has spent 254 of them in the American Hockey League and 165 with the Rivermen.
On Dec. 15, 2010, Cracknell made his NHL debut with the St. Louis Blues in his 275th professional game. He has since appeared in 24 NHL games and has recorded seven points (three goals, four assists).
Cracknell takes the "C" from Dean Arsene who wore it for the 2010-11 season before signing with the Phoenix Coyotes during the offseason. Arsene now serves as the captain of the AHL's Portland Pirates.
Since the Rivermen joined the AHL prior to the 2005-06 season, they have had five previous captains.
