Islanders' Rebel Forces Protect the Galaxy from the Titan's Galactic Empire
December 29, 2019 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
On Sunday afternoon, the Eastlink Centre transforms from a hockey rink to a battlefront in the war against the Evil Empire, as the Charlottetown Islanders and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan renew hostilities in the first-ever Star Wars game at the Eastlink Centre.
The Islanders (20-12-5-0) are coming off an overtime loss to the Moncton Wildcats just last night. Ethan Crossman recorded his first goal as an Islander while young Padawan Drew Elliott recorded his first assist as an Islander.
Despite the loss, Jedi Master Matthew Welsh stood tall between the pipes, making 36 saves in defeat.
Crossman's goal came on the powerplay, an area that has been strong for the Isles this season. With a 20.6% success rate on the man advantage, the Islanders sit ninth in the league on the powerplay, tied with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. At the other end of the spectrum, however, Charlottetown needs to find a way to stay out of the penalty box. They're one of the most penalized team in the league having been shorthanded 154 times this season, including five times last night. Despite being in the top half of the league in shorthanded success (79.2%), they've given up 32 powerplay goals, the fourth-most in the QMJHL.
The Rebel Alliance of the Islanders will look to rebound today against the Evil Empire of the Titan (6-22-3-3), who are coming off a 5-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs just last night. While having only six victories on the season, half of those victories have come in the past seven games for Bathurst.
Anderson MacDonald had a big game last night, recording a goal and 3 assists. The 19-year-old has been hot in December, recording 12 points in 8 games so far.
The last time these two teams met, the Titan came away with a 3-2 overtime victory. Yan Aucoin recorded two assists in the victory while Tristan Berube made 33 saves to preserve the win.
