In their last home game of 2019, the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Moncton Wildcats (25-10-0-0) for the third time in four meetings this season, thanks to an incredible 43-save shutout performance from Zachary Bouthillier and improved to 18-18-1-0 on the season. A goal from Kale McCallum early in the third period pushed the Sea Dogs past the Wildcats in the low-scoring affair on Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Dogs were without Maxim Cajkovic, who is currently playing in the World Junior Championships, and Nicholas Deakin-Poot, who is out with an upper body injury.

Zachary Bouthillier got the start for the Sea Dogs, stopping all 43 shots he faced, and Dakota Lund-Cornish started in net for Moncton.

The Maritime rivals posted a scoreless first period, despite many opportunities, thanks to big saves by the goalies on both sides.

The Sea Dogs penalty kill came out twice in the period, after a slashing penalty to Riley Bezeau at 3:06 and a tripping penalty to Charlie DesRoches at 15:27, successfully shutting down the third best power play in the league both times.

The Sea Dogs got their first power play opportunity with 48 seconds remaining in the period after Jordan Spence was sent to the box for tripping.

Shots after the first period were 12-11 for Moncton.

The goalies continued to be the stars of the show, maintaining their perfect records and keeping the game scoreless through the first 40 minutes.

The Sea Dogs penalty kill shut down the Moncton power play yet again when Matt Gould was sent off for slashing at 5:12.

Jordan Spadafore and Jacob Hudson received five minutes each after dropping the gloves at 6:37. Jacob Hudson was given an additional two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

An interference penalty to Sean Stewart followed by a slashing penalty to Dawson Stairs sent the play to 48 seconds of four-on-four.

Shots after the second period were 28-19 for Moncton.

Kale McCallum broke the scoreless tie early in the final period with his second goal of the season, picking up a pass from Jeffrey Durocher and firing it past the Moncton netminder at 2:58.

Zachary Bouthillier backstopped the Sea Dogs for the rest of the period maintaining the lead and his shutout with incredible saves.

The Wildcats pulled their goalie but were unable to score with the extra man.

The final shot count was 43-26 for Moncton.

The 1-0 shutout win comes almost one year to the day that Saint John topped Moncton 1-0 on December 30th, 2018 after Mikhail Denisov made 34 saves.
