Islanders Finalize Roster

March 22, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Hawaiian Islanders News Release

HONOLULU – If the Hawaiian Islanders are going to start off the season with a win over Central Valley this Saturday, they are going to do it without the services of three projected starters.

Due to nagging injuries, defensive specialist Eddie Klaneski, wide receiver/defensive back Gabe Amey and quarterback Brian Ah Yat were placed on the short term injured list, which means they will not play for the first two weeks. All three can be eligible to play in Hawaii’s next game, April 10 at Louisville.

“These are three guys who could have been starters,” said Islanders Head Coach Cal Lee. “We have a good group of guys so we’ll just have to work harder at practice this week.”

In addition to the injured list, six players were reassigned to the af2. They include Justin Colbert, Jaron Cunningham, Neal Gossett, Jonathan Kauka, Fabian Manumaleuna and Johnny Wayfer. Tight end/defensive tackle Tiki Sagapolutele was placed on recallable reassignment meaning he could be recalled back to the team this week.

Although the 21-man roster was announced today, Lee and his coaching staff can adjust the roster until the team departs for Fresno this Thursday. Only 19 of the 21 players will actually play in the game.

The Hawaiian Islanders will open their home season on Saturday, April 17 against the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings at the Neal Blaisdell Arena. For ticket information, please call 53-ARENA or visit our web site at
