ARENAFOOTBALL2 PLAYOFF FORMAT:
The 2004 af2 playoffs will feature 12 teams and span four weeks with the American Conference champion meeting the National Conference champion in the 2004 ArenaCup on the weekend of August 26-28.

Six teams from each the American and National Conference will qualify for the postseason. Within each conference the two division champions with the best overall records earn a bye in the first round. The remaining division champion hosts the lowest seeded wildcard team, while the other two wild card teams play each other at the venue of the team with the better overall record.

In the second round, the two teams, which earned a first round bye, host the winners of the first round games. The division winner with the best overall record hosts the lowest seeded winner from round one, while the other division winner hosts the other first round winner.

Winners of second round games meet for the conference finals, and the team with the better overall record is the host. The American Conference champion meets the National Conference champion in the 2004 ArenaCup. The participating team with the better overall record hosts the championship game.

HEAD COACHES:

Cal Lee was named head coach of the Hawaiian Islanders on October 23, 2002 giving fans across Hawaii an added excitement for the 2003 season and he delivered on his promise. He turned a 5-11, 2002 season to an 11-7 record in 2003. He also gave Hawaii its first west division crown. Lee is the most prolific football coach in Hawaii high school history. In 21 years as a head coach at St. Louis High School (Honolulu), his teams have compiled a 241-32-5 record, which include 18 league titles and 15 state championships.

A Bakersfield native, Van Horne graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1979 and went on to play college football at Bakersfield College for two seasons, where he was a First Team Junior College All-American at free safety. After BC, he played two seasons with the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
