Coyotes look to end regular season on a good note in San Diego

(Fresno, CA) – After their second victory of the season last weekend against the Hawaiian Islanders, the Central Valley Coyotes will hit the road in Week 18, traveling down south to San Diego. The Coyotes are looking to finish up the 2004 season on a good note with their first win on the road.

"Last weekend was a good win for us," said head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "Last week is over with and we need to start preparing for the Riptide. This week is a short week with the game on Friday night, so we have to really focus on being mentally prepared. San Diego is a tough place to play, but I think we're capable of going in there and getting a W."

CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES (2-13) vs. SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE (8-7)

Week 18 brings the final regular season contest of the season for the Central Valley Coyotes and the San Diego Riptide. Each team was able to secure a victory in week seventeen, with the Riptide defeating the Bakersfield Blitz, 34-30 and the Coyotes defeating the Hawaiian Islanders, 64-63. Central Valley can end San Diego's post-season dreams with a win this weekend.

San Diego has decided to go with back-up quarterback Kevin Feterik to finish out the remainder of the 2004 season. In five games he has completed 57-of-94 passes for 706 yards, 12 TDs and four interceptions. Feterik was able to lead the Riptide to victory the last time these two teams met on July 11.

The Riptide receiving corps is led by Dwight Carter, who has hauled in 98 receptions for 1,279 yards and 22 TDs. The rest of the group is rounded out by Jesus Reyes (56 rec., 852 yds. and 16 TDs) and Nakoa McElrath (47 rec., 770 yds. and 21 TDs).

The ground game is split up between Matt Guardia and Ryan Cuthbert. The two have combined for 204 yards and 18 TDs on 61 carries.

Defensively the Riptide front three have tallied 18 sacks for a loss of 110-yards, while the secondary has amassed 21 interceptions for 128 yards and 55 pass deflections this season. Quincy LeJay leads all Riptide tacklers with 77.5 (63-solo).

Frank Borba will get the nod for the Coyotes this weekend in San Diego in place of Juston Wood who missed practice all week long for personal issues. Borba has completed 78-of-142 passes for 917 yards, 8 interceptions and 15 TDs. He will look to his leading receiver Kenyatte Morgan (107 rec., 1,383 and 26 TDs) to get things going offensively. The remainder of the receiving corps is rounded out by LaMonte Jones (72 rec., 835 yds and 17 TDs) and Marvin Brown (24 rec., 274 yds and 4 TDs).

Kevin Nelson will lead the ground game for the Coyotes, having gained 60 yards on 14 carries this season including, two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer leads the Coyotes in tackles (48), interceptions (6) and pass deflections (13). The Coyotes front three is led by veteran Al Noga, Nathan Frowsing and Dewayne Johnson.
