IronPigs Open Series at Charlotte

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will open a four-game set with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte. First pitch of the series opener is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Pigs enter play at 27-25 on the year after taking two of three from Norfolk earlier in the week. Charlotte sits atop the South Division at 28-26 on the season after a three-game sweep of Syracuse.

LHP James Russell (1-1, 1.47) will be on the bump for the Pigs on Thursday night. The southpaw was tagged with the loss on Saturday vs. Louisville when he allowed two runs on four hits while fanning four in five innings of work. Over his 10 appearances with the IronPigs this season, Russell has held lefties to a .063 average (1-16).

RHP Erik Johnson (2-1, 3.21) gets the ball for manager Julio Vinas' squad in the series opener. Johnson got a no-decision on Saturday at Rochester when he gave up three runs (one earned) on six hits to go along with three walks and five strikeouts in 6.2 IP. The right-hander is the reigning International League Pitcher of the Year after going 11-8 with a 2.37 ERA in 23 G (22 GS) with the Knights in 2015.

With a pair of hits on Wednesday, Pigs 1B Brock Stassi has now hit safely in his last four games. In that time, Stassi is hitting .545-0-4 (6-11, 2B, 2 R, SB).
