Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats were on the losing end of a pitcher's duel and 11 ninth inning runs Thursday night as they fell 11-0 to the Toledo Mud Hens. Wandy Peralta took the loss after he gave up five earned runs on two hits.
It was the Keyvius Sampson and Matt Crouse show at Louisville Slugger Field for the first seven innings as both pitchers came away with the no decision.
Sampson (2-1, 1.67) pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts.
Crouse (0-0, 1.59) went seven and one-third innings, giving up four hits, no runs and striking out five batters.
The Bats looked to be in business in the sixth inning when Juan Perez doubled to open the inning but was picked off at second. The next batter, Jose Peraza tripled for the third time this season but couldn't cross the plate.
In the ninth inning, the Mud Hens broke through in a big way by scoring 11 runs behind four singles, two home runs (one a grand slam), and four walks. The 11-run inning tied a franchise high for the most runs given up by the Bats in one single inning. The last time was May 13, 2014 at Norfolk.
The Bats will begin a three game series with the Rochester Red Wings tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Left hander Cody Reed (4-2, 2.70) will take the mound for the Bats and oppose Red Wings left hander Andrew Albers (3-1, 3.93).
