Rochester Red Wings News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Rochester Red Wings received 6.1 strong innings from Tommy Milone and a solo home run by Eddie Rosario to beat the Indianapolis Indians 5-2 Thursday at Victory Field.
The Red Wings (30-24) become the third team in the International League to reach 30 wins, joining Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Columbus, which accomplished the feat tonight. The RailRiders fell to the Clippers Thursday, meaning Rochester and Scranton/WB are tied atop the IL North with identical 30-24 marks. The Indians (27-25) took the season series 4-3 but the Wings were able to salvage a split with Thursday's victory.
Milone (3-0) scattered seven hits and one walk while surrendering one run with three strikeouts. The lone run came in the second inning as Jason Rogers plated Josh Bell with a single to tie the game at one. The Wings struck first in the top half as Wilfredo Tovar drove in John Ryan Murphy with a single after Murphy doubled with two outs.
Rochester had a lot of chances early against Indianapolis starter Trevor Williams (0-2) and finally cashed in big in fourth. Murphy and Jorge Polanco each hit a sacrifice fly and Tovar added an RBI single to give the Red Wings a three-run advantage. Rosario gave the Wings a 5-1 lead in the fifth, hitting the first pitch of the frame out for his second homer this season.
J.T. Chargois surrendered his first Triple-A run in nine appearances in the eighth, a sacrifice fly by Rogers to cut the Rochester lead to 5-2. Alex Wimmers worked a perfect ninth inning to secure his third Triple-A save.
James Beresford, Tovar and Rosario each had two hits while Tovar drove in a pair of runs in the win.
