Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Aberdeen Closes Out The Series With A Win, 14-4
The IronBirds scored 14 runs on 17 hits to secure a victory and prevent a sweep against the Lake Monsters. Jonathan Schoop hit a grand slam and a three-run home run for Aberdeen. Sebastien Vader did not factor into the decision after he pitched four innings. He gave up four hits, three runs (all earned), two walks and struck out six. Left fielder Tyler Marincov went 1 for 4 with an RBI triple in the first inning for the Lake Monsters.
Put It In The Books
IronBirds' infielder Jeff Kemp tied a team record last night when he scored four runs. He is the fourth IronBird ever to accomplish that task. Jonathan Schoop set a new IronBirds' record for RBIs in a game with seven. The IronBirds have now collected 17 hits in a game twice this season.
A Race To The Finish
In the month of July, Aberdeen is 13-9 and looks to improve on that number during this road trip. The team is 0-2 on the road during games played on Friday this year. The IronBirds swept a three-game series to begin the month of July against the Renegades.
On The Road Again...
The IronBirds will get a chance to make up some ground in the standings when they take on the first place Hudson Valley Renegades tonight. Following two games at Dutchess Stadium, the 'Birds travel to Staten Island for two more games with the Yankees.
On the mound tonight...
RHP Janser Severino will get the start for the IronBirds tonight. In his last outing, Severino pitched against the Jamestown Jammers. He took the loss as Aberdeen fell, 6-4. He went 5 innings, allowing eight hits, four runs (three earned), walked one, and struck out five. He will be opposed by Hudson Valley's LHP Ben Griset. Griset is 0-2 on the season with a 4.94 ERA. In his last outing, Griset went six innings, allowing four hits, one run, a walk, and ringing up four strikeouts. Griset will be making his seventh appearance of the season and has allowed 16 runs and five walks in 23.2 innings pitched.
