BURLINGTON, VT --- Ryon Healy had a pair of RBI doubles in his Lake Monsters debut, while Lou Trivino allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings for his first professional victory as Vermont opened a five-game homestand with a 5-3 win over the Tri-City ValleyCats in New York-Penn League action Friday night at historic Centennial Field.

Healy, a third-round pick for Oakland in the 2013 draft out of the University of Oregon where he hit .333 with 11 homers and a school-record 20 doubles this spring, smashed a line drive double down the left-field line to score Boog Powell with the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning and then scored on a Jaycob Brugman RBI single to right for a 2-0 lead.. 

The ValleyCats got a run back in the second on a D'Andre Toney bases loaded sacrifice fly to center, but Vermont scored three more runs in the third top open up a 5-1 advantage.  Powell opened the third with a double to rightcenter and scored when B.J. Boyd followed with an RBI groundball single to center. Then Healy lined a one-out RBI double to center and scored on a two-out Michael Soto RBI double into the leftfield corner.  

Trivino (1-1), making his third start of the season after four relief appearances, became the first Vermont pitcher to go more than six innings and record in out in the seventh inning this season as he scattered five Tri-City over his 6 1/3 innings. He left after allowing a pair of baserunners in the seventh, but Derek Hansen getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the inning as Healy made a nice sliding catch of a foul ball near the Vermont dugout for the final out of the inning.

Tri-City did get a run in the eighth on a Jon Kemmer bases loaded infield single to cut the deficit to 5-2, but reliever Sam Bragg got out of further trouble bu striking out Jose Rodriguez and getting Ryan Dineen to ground into an inning-ending double play. The ValleyCats got an unearned run in the ninth and had the tying runs on base when Bragg struckout Adam Nelubowich to end the game.

Powell and Healy both had two hits and two runs scored for the Lake Monsters, while Brugman and Soto both had a pair of hits. Conrad Gregor was 3-for-5 and starter Kevin Comer (2-3) allowed five runs on six hits in just 2 1/3 innings to take the loss for Tri-City (26-13), which has won 12 of its last 16 games.

Vermont has now won seven of its last nine games and have climbed to the .500 mark for the second time this season at 19-19. The two teams will wrap up the quick two-game series at Centennial on Saturday beginning at 6:05 pm. Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber will be signing autographs on the concourse beginning at 5:00 pm and also throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
