Thrilling, Extra Inning Win Takes Aberdeen Into First Place

The Aberdeen IronBirds beat the Auburn Doubledays last night 10-9 in ten innings, and, coupled with a Hudson Valley loss, now lead the McNamara Division by a half game. Donnie Hart got credit for his second professional win, while Jeff Kemp, Sam Kimmel, and Manny Hernandez all delivered extra base hits late in the ball game to help put the IronBirds over the top. The Doubledays had the tying run on third base in the bottom of the tenth, but Hart got pinch hitter Austin Chubb to strike out looking to end the game. The lead changed hands seven times before the IronBirds were able to claim a 10-9 victory.

Record-Breaking Night

Last night was the ninth extra inning game the IronBirds played this season. While the franchise record for extra inning games in a single season is 11, the IronBirds won their seventh extra inning game this season, setting a new franchise mark. The seven victories breaks a record set by the 2010 club, which went 6-4 in extra innings.

IronBirds Offense Powers Up

The IronBirds got production up and down the line up last night. Mike Yastrzemski homered in the second inning, his third round tripper as a professional. Jeff Kemp hit an RBI single in the fifth and a three RBI double in the ninth. Sam Kimmel had a single and run scored in the ninth, and an RBI triple in the tenth. Manny Hernandez also had a huge night, going 4-5, with three singles, an RBI and a double, as well as two runs scored. Eight of the nine IronBirds in the lineup had hits.

Auburn Continues to Swing Hot Bats

After dealing a three game sweep to the Hudson Valley Renegades last weekend, the Auburn Doubledays were looking for their fourth consecutive victory. The Doubledays scored 13 runs on Sunday and then nine in the game last night. The 13 and nine run totals are the two highest run totals that Auburn has scored this season in a single game.

On the mound tonight...

Aberdeen will send RHP Sebastian Vader to the hill tonight. In his last outing, Vader was terrific. He went 8.1 innings, allowing just six hits and one walk, striking out two. He improved his record to 3-3 and his ERA stands at 2.65 entering tonight's start. He will face the Doubledays' LHP RC Orlan. He is 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA. In his last outing, he took the loss against the Lowell Spinners back on July 31st. He went four innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (all earned), walking three and striking out two.
