Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Auburn, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds used George Barber's first professional home run and another dominant start from Sebastian Vader to get the win tonight, 3-0, over the Auburn Doubledays.

Barber got things started in the top of the third. He led off the inning by launching a home run high over the left field fence, his first career round tripper, and it was 1-0 IronBirds.

Vader would keep the Doubledays in check. Auburn didn't collect their first hit until there were two outs in the fourth inning and wouldn't get a runner to second base until the seventh.

It was in that seventh inning that Vader worked out of a jam and kept the IronBirds in front, 1-0.

After striking out Bryan Lippincott and getting Jimmy Yezzo to ground out, Vader ran into a bit of trouble. He allowed a single to Matt Foat and then walked Cody Gunter. He was able to work out of the jam, however, by getting Brenton Allen to strike out swining.

All told for Vader, he went seven innings, allowed two hits and three walks. He struck out seven Doubleday batters.

The IronBirds added to their lead in the eighth. Federico Castagnini led off the inning with a walk and Mike Yastrzemski reached on an error. After a Jeff Kemp sacrifice bunt, Trey Mancini was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Conor Bierfeldt hit into a fielder's choice, but it allowed Castagnini to score, making it 2-0 IronBirds. Austin Wynns then came up and hit a line drive single to center, scoring Mancini, giving Aberdeen the 3-0 lead.

Alex Santana came on in the bottom of the 8th and got the six out save.

With the win, Vader improves to 4-3 on the season.

Aberdeen will go for the sweep tomorrow night when Janser Severino will take the hill. First pitch from Falcon Park is set for 7:05 p.m.
