Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- B.J. Boyd and Ryon Healy hit back-to-back home runs leading off the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and three Vermont pitchers combined to retire the final 17 Jamestown batters of the game as the Lake Monsters snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Jammers in New York-Penn League action Wednesday night at historic Centennial Field.ÃâÃÂ
Boyd led off the eighth by launching a 2-2 pitch from Will Kendell (0-1) over the rightfield fence into the bullpen area for his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Healy then followed by smacking Kendell's 2-1 pitch over the leftfield fence for his second home run in two days against the Jammers.ÃâÃÂ
It was the first back-to-back home runs for the Lake Monsters since Francisco Plasencia and Greg Thissen at Tri-City on August 13, 2005 and the first back-to-back Vermont homers at Centennial Field since Josh Whitesell and Ofilio Castro vs. Aberdeen on August 21, 2003.ÃâÃÂ
Jamestown, the league's top offensive team in runs scored and average, used three hits in the top of the third to score its only run on a Adam Frazier RBI single to tie the game 1-1. The Jammers got a one-out single from Edwin Espinal in the fourth, but he would be their last baserunner of the night.
Vermont s tarter Kyle Finnegan allowed the one run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts over the first five innings, while reliever Kayvon Bahramzadeh (1-1) had one strikeout in three perfect innings for the win. Trevor Bayless came on for a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two for his league-leading seventh save. It was the 15th time this season that the Lake Monsters have held an opponent to one run.
Boyd went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs, while Healy, Jaycob Brugman and Luis Baez each had two hits for Vermont (24-26), whileÃâàCody Dickson allowed one unearned run on six hits over five innings in a no-decision for Jamestown (30-18).
The Lake Monsters and Jammers will wrap up the three-game series on Thursday night beginning at 7:05 pm. Along with "Kids Eat Free" Thursday sponsored by Heritage and the H-Team, the first 500 kids will also receive a free Champ Jersey Drawstring Backpack courtesy of People's United Bank.
