Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Turn out the lights...the party's over
Last night's game between the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Staten Island Yankees was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning after Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George lost power. The Yankees were leading at the time, 8-4. The game has been officially suspended at that point. The New York-Penn League has not announced a date for resumption of play.
It was fun while it lasted
The IronBirds scored four runs in the top of the first inning last night. Hits from Sam Kimmel, Kris Richards, Conor Bierfeldt, and Manny Hernandez helped give the IronBirds the lead. The Yankees would take the lead, however, in the bottom of the second, when they sent ten men to the plate, and got a grand slam from Yeicok Calderon. The Yankees added two more in the bottom of the third, and that was the last of the scoring before the power went out.
Officially unofficial
The game last night stands as unofficial, even though the game was in the fifth inning with the Yankees in the lead. Because it was a power issue and not a rain delay, the game must be resumed at some point. The stats, to the point of stoppage, are official.
On the mound tonight...
LHP Steve Brault will make his home debut tonight. He pitched Friday night in Brooklyn in a 4-2 Aberdeen loss. After cruising through the first five innings, Brault ran into some trouble in the sixth. He allowed a leadoff double, followed by a single, before being pulled from the game. He did not factor into the decision. He got credit for five innings (plus two batters), six hits, two runs (both earned), striking out five. He did not walk a single Cyclone. Brooklyn will counter with RHP John Gant. Gant is 1-0, after getting the win against the IronBirds last Thursday. He went five innings, allowed just three hits, walking two and fanning six. In tomorrow's series finale, the IronBirds will send RHP Sebastian Vader, while the Cyclones will counter with LHP Carlos Valdez.
I'm coming home
The IronBirds return home tonight after a six game road trip. They will host the two teams they just visited. The Brooklyn Cyclones are in town tonight, beginning a two game series. The Staten Island Yankees come in Friday night for a three game weekend set.
