
CT Tigers Cruise Past Lake Monsters

Norwich, CT - The CT Tigers defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters 10-3 on Wednesday night. The Tigers big hit came in the bottom half of the first inning as RF Ben Verlander (2-4) hit a two-run homerun to deep left field to put the Tigers in front 2-0. With runners on second third, 1B Patrick Leyland (1-4) added a two-run single to put the Tigers ahead 4-0.
In the second inning the Lake Monsters C Ryan Gorton (0-3) hit a hard ground ball to SS Curt Powell (0-3), who committed an error on the play to score 1B Michael Soto (2-4) to make the score 4-1. In the second inning Verlander added an RBI double to put the Tigers ahead 5-1. Vermont added two in the fourth inning highlighted by an RBI single from DH Xavier Martin (1-3) to make the game 5-3.
The Tigers added runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning to take an 8-3 lead. In the eighth inning the Tigers grabbed two more runs highlighted by DH Duncan McAlpine's (1-5) RBI single to take a 10-3 lead.
The CT Tigers announced today that second round draft pick in the 2013 draft LHP Kevin Ziomek has joined the team. Zoimek spent his Junior season with Vanderbilt and went 11-3 with a 2.12 ERA in 2013. The CT Tigers now have the top two draft picks on their team for the first time in franchise history.
The Tigers wrap up a two-game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Dodd Stadium. Tomorrow night the ballpark opens up at 5:00 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday featuring live music and drink specials located at "The Hole In The Wall Bar" on the first base concourse. In the final game of the series, Connecticut RHP Jonathon Crawford (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face off against Vermont LHP Brent Powers (0-0, 0.00).
