
IronBirds Late Rally Falls Short in Series Finale

The IronBirds looked to claim the series on Sunday night at Ripken Stadium. The Cyclones took the lead early in the game when CF Brandon Nimmo scored on a RBI single by DH Alexander Sanchez at the top of the first inning.
IronBirds held the Cyclones to one run until the fourth inning when Cyclones RF Eudy Pina blasted a hit into deep centerfield bringing Sanchez and C Nelfi Zapata to the plate.
The Cyclones extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning when Sanchez picked up another RBI and brought home 2B Richie Rodriguez. 1B Cole Frenzel picked up a two-run single allowing CF Brandon Nimmo and Sanchez to score. Cyclones continued to do more damage in the sixth inning with an RBI from SS Phillip Evans scoring LF Jonathan Clark and in the seventh inning when Zapata homered to left field, bringing the score to 8-0.
With bases loaded in the seventh inning, the IronBirds bats came alive. 1B Doug Bream's grand slam off of P Ernesto Yanez and cut the score in half and brought home RF Roderick Bernadina, 3B Torsten Boss and SS Joel Hutter. C Sam Kimmel scored off of a ground ball. Bream's grand slam was the first home run of his professional career.
The Cyclones continued to gain more runs in the ninth inning with Zapata and 1B Cole Frenzel scoring off of a fielding error made by Hutter. This brought the score to 10-5.
Ynoa picked up the win for the Cyclones while Sebastian Vader picked up the loss for the IronBirds. John Mincone notched the save.
The IronBirds travel to Staten Island on Monday, June 25 to begin their three-game series with the Staten Island Yankees. RHP Jaime Esquivel (1-0, 3.60) will start series opener for the Birds. The Yankees will counter with LHP Evan Rutckyj (0-1, 5.79).
