ValleyCats Take Series with 6-5 Win

NORWICH- The Tri-City ValleyCats (4-3) came back to wrestle the lead away from the Connecticut Tigers (2-5) on two separate occasions and earn a 6-5 win before 1,889 fans at Dodd Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning DH Edgar Corcino (3-5) doubled and scored on a single by RF Edwin Gomez (1-4) for a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning SS Jared Reaves (3-5) singled and stole second base. LF Danry Vasquez (1-5) doubled home Reaves for a 2-0 advantage.

The ValleyCats scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 2-2. C Jobduan Morales (2-5) singled and scored on a double by LF Dan Gulbransen (3-5).

SS Joe Scalafani (2-5) double home Gulbransen to tie the score at 2-2.

Connecticut took the lead in the sixth inning. Corcino led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Corcino went to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a single by C Bennett Pickar (2-3) for a 3-2 lead.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh inning on an RBI double by 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (3-5) for a 4-2 lead.

After the ValleyCats scored four runs on four hits in the eighth inning to take a 6-2 lead, the Tigers scored a run in the eighth inning. Pickar doubled and went to third base on a groundout by SS Carlos De Los Santos (0-4). Reaves hit a double to plate Pickar and make it 6-5 Tri-City.

The Tigers take to the road Monday night, opening up a three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters, the NYPL affiliate of the Oakland A's, at 7:05 p.m.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
