GRIDLOCK FOR SECOND:

The ‘Birds and Yankees will battle for sole possession of second place on Wednesday as Aberdeen, Hudson Valley and Staten Island are all 4-6 and 4.0 games behind the divisional leader Brooklyn. The Yankees are on a three-game win streak, while the ‘Birds have lost two consecutive contests.

LOADING THE LEFTIES:

Tonight's contest will be third time the IronBirds have faced a right-handed starter. They are 0-2 against righties, while 4-4 against left-handers.

TOUGH LOSS:

The ‘Birds surrendered seven runs on in the final three innings as the IronBirds fell to 4-5 on the season. Staten Island out hit the ‘Birds 15-to-7 in Sunday afternoon's contest.

HOME RUN BREAKING:

Aberdeen hammered four home runs in yesterday afternoon's contest to set a new franchise record. The ‘Birds have hit three home runs in five previous games, last occurring on August 7, 2007 at Vermont.

SECOND GO-AROUND:

The Yankees and IronBirds will meet again for the second series of the year. Aberdeen took a 2-1 series victory against the Yanks on June 24. The Yankees are 2-6, while the ‘Birds are 4-4 and currently two games behind first place.

EXPLODING:

The ‘Birds snapped their two-game skid on Saturday evening with a 4-2 win over the Cyclones. Aberdeen out hit Brooklyn 10-to-4 to capture their first win against Brooklyn this season. The IronBirds wrapped up the six-game homestand with a 3-3 record.

IT'S ALL DIVISIONAL

Aberdeen opens the season with 12 consecutive games against McNamara Division foes. Last season, the IronBirds held a 12-21 record against teams in the McNamara Division. A three game road trip in Hudson Valley (June 19-21) will be followed by a six-game homestand with Staten Island (June 22-24) and Brooklyn (June 25-27). The IronBirds then travel to Staten Island (June 28-30) for a three-game series before hosting their first non-divisional opponent Oneonta on July 1-3.
