Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Crosscutters won the final game of a six-game home stand defeating Batavia 10-7 on Tuesday night at Historic Bowman Field.

NYPL Pitcher of the Week Jonathan Pettibone (1-0, 0.56) won his first game as a Cutter. He shook off a rough first inning where he allowed two runs to score. In all, he pitched five innings giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out three Muckdogs.

SS Jeremy Barnes had a phenomenal night at the plate; finishing 3-for-5 with four RBI. Barnes was just a double shy of hitting for the cycle, a feat rarely seen in baseball. Barnes started his night off early blasting a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first tying the game at two.

The Cutters took the lead in the bottom of the second when 1B Francisco Murillo doubled in DH T.J. Warren who singled to lead off the inning. Murillo would later score on a Leandro Castro RBI single, extending the lead to 4-2.

The seesaw battle continued when Batavia tied the game in the top of the third.

In the bottom half of the third Barnes led off with a triple and scored when C Sebastian Valle ripped a fastball over the left field fence, giving Williamsport a 6-4 lead they would never relinquish.

The Cutters scored four more times in the inning with Barnes getting his third hit of the game, a single plating two more runs and giving the Crosscutters a 10-4 lead.

Williamsport relievers Esmelvin Jimenez and Luke Wertz combined to finish off the game and stifle the Muckdogs chances in the late innings.

The Crosscutters went 4-2 in the just completed six-game home stand against Mahoning Valley & Batavia.

The Cutters now go on the road to Mahoning Valley where they begin a crucial three-game series with the Scrappers. Tomorrow's game begins at 7:05pm and can be heard on ESPN 1050 or ESPN 104.1.
