IronBirds fall to Oneonta late

July 28, 2005 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

The IronBirds (12-23) played one of the latest games in team history on Wednesday night (ending Thursday morning) in losing to Oneonta (21-12) by the score of 10-8. The loss dropped Aberdeen to 1-5 on their 6-game homestand, and improved Oneonta to a mind boggling 16-2 on the road this season. A back and forth game did not start until 9:44 because of heavy rains in the area.

Aberdeen scored 4 times in the fourth, 3 more in the fifth and once in the eighth, but it was not enough to avoid the sweep. Mark Fleisher was 2-3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored and Rob Marconi was 2-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Ryan Steinbach, Nolan Reimold, Keith Reed and Ryan Finan picked up the other IronBirds hits. Francisco Guerrero and Jason Maxey drove in the other Aberdeen runs.

After the delay, the game began and Aberdeen went down 2-0 before they came to bat. Oneonta piled on single runs in the 5th and 6th, 5 runs in the 7th and a final run in the 8th. Ryan Schwabe took the loss in relief and fell to 1-5 on the season.

The IronBirds hit the road for 3-game series at both New Jersey and Jamestown before an off-day. They then return home for a 6-game homestand beginning next Thursday, August 4th against Batavia.
