New Jersey Cardinals News Release
WEEKLY WRAP-UP: The Cardinals went 4-2 on their six game road trip last week. The dropped 2 of 3 in Auburn to the Doubledays (Toronto), before rebounding to sweep the weekend set from the Vermont Expos (Washington). New Jerseys 16-17 record is good for 4th place in the McNamara division of the New York Penn league, 6 games back of the first place Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees).
BIRDS WITH BATS: The Cardinals swung the bats extremely well last week, as they hit .366 as a team (75-205) and scored 46 runs, including scoring double digits runs in all three wins against Vermont. OF Yonathan Sirvia led the way with a .545 average (12-22) and four RBIs. OF Chad Gabriel was just as hot, as he pounded out 10 hits in 19 at-bats, good for a .526 average. He also scored 5 runs and drove in 5. C Brandon Yarbrough has pushed his team leading batting average to .316, (25-79) as he has picked up 6 hits in 14 at-bats in the last 10 games. SS Tyler Greene has driven in 11 runs in his last 10 games, giving him 14 on the season. OF Matt Wilkerson hit his team leading 4th homer run July 24th in Vermont.
CARDS ON THE MOUND: RHP Nick Webber won his team-leading third game of the season last week, with 7 shut-out innings against Vermont. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 4. LHP Adam Daniels threw 4 innings out of the bullpen last week and did not give up an earned run. He struck out 7 and only gave up one hit. RHP Mitchell Boggs earned his first win of the season July 24th, with a 5 inning performance against Vermont.
WEEK AHEAD: New Jersey starts a six game home-stand July 25th with three games against the Lowell Spinners (Boston). They finish with a weekend set against the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore).
