BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In high-scoring game the Birmingham Squadron edged the Iowa Wolves, 134-125, on Thursday night at Legacy Arena at the BJCC.
Malcom Hill scored a season-high 44 points to lead Birmingham (4-5). Iowa (2-7) was paced by Tyrese Martin who scored 29 points off the bench.
The two teams blistered the nets from the three-point arc as the Squadron knocked down 19-of-39 (48.7 percent) and the Wolves made 18-of-37 (48.6 percent). Martin drilled seven while Hill made six threes.
Minnesota assignees Leonard Miller and Josh Minott scored 28 and 19 points, respectively. D.J. Carton finished with 17 points while Lance Stephenson had 14. Stephenson dished out 10 assists and just missed another triple-double in his second straight game with seven rebounds.
Minott's running layup at the 8:25 mark of the first quarter gave Iowa its final lead at 13-9. Birmingham finished the first quarter with a 38-31 advantage.
Iowa returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the Capital City Go-Go.
