HENDERSON, NV - NBA G League Ignite (0-10) fell short in the first of the two-game series to the Mexico City Capitanes (7-2), 106-100, on Wednesday at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.
Ron Holland led the way for Ignite with a final stat line of 24 points, six rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks. Izan Almansa followed closely with 22 points and six rebounds on 8-of-10 shots from the field. John Jenkins added 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the three-point line, while London Johnson tallied 13 points and seven assists.
Ethan Thompson paced the Capitanes with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists. Justin Wright-Foreman poured in 19 points, five assists and three rebounds, while Kenneth Faried notched a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 21 rebounds.
Ignite pulled out an early lead heading into the second quarter after a 12-point opening quarter from Izan Almansa, who went perfect from the field in that span. As a team, Ignite shot 58.8 percent from the field in the opening frame to take a seven-point lead (31-24). The Capitanes climbed back in the second period after outscoring Ignite (27-18) in the frame. Ethan Thompson poured in 17 of his 21 points in the first half on 7-of-11 shooting from the field to help the Capitanes edge out a two-point lead (51-49) at the halfway mark. Kenneth Faried helped the Capitanes pull away in the third quarter after scoring 10 of his 18 points in the frame on 5-of-7 shooting from the field in that span. The Capitanes took its largest lead of the game, 15, in the third period and held a firm lead until late in the fourth quarter. Down 101-88 at the 3:55 mark, Ignite scored six consecutive points to make one final push down the stretch. The Capitanes responded with a 5-0 run to strike down Ignite's comeback aspirations en route to securing the victory.
