DES MOINES, Iowa - The Birmingham Squadron clinched a playoff spot in the NBA G League Western Conference with a 114-106 victory over the Iowa Wolves on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

Joe Young was the leading scorer for Birmingham (16-14) with 24 points and Jared Harper, who signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans today, had 22 points.

Two-way McKinley Wright IV was the high scorer for Iowa (13-17) with 25 points and a career-high 15 assists.

Even with the loss, the Wolves remain in contention for the sixth and final postseason berth. They will host Oklahoma City (15-18) Thursday and Friday. The Blue along with Memphis (14-19), Santa Cruz (13-17) and Austin (13-17) and Iowa are all battling for the last postseason berth.

Birmingham trailed Iowa 29-18 after the first quarter before slowly chipping away in the second quarter. The Squadron turned a double-digit deficit into a four-point lead, 51-47, at halftime as they outscored the Wolves, 33-18, in the quarter.

Birmingham never trailed again as it led by as many as 19 points in the third. Iowa pulled within seven points after Isaiah Miller's cutting layup with seven minutes left in the game. Miller finished with 14 points in his second start of the regular season. However, the Squadron quickly went up double digits again.

Melvin Frazier Jr.'s three-pointer with just over three minutes to go moved Iowa within eight points. Again, Birmingham quickly answered and put the lead back in double figures.

Birmingham's shooting improved after a slow first quarter as it finished at 52.9 percent from the floor. The Squadron made 12 three-pointers in the final three quarters after hitting just one in the first.

Iowa opened the game with a 15-3 run as four different Wolves scored in the spurt.

Thursday and Friday's games against OKC will each tipoff at 7 p.m. CT.
