Iowa Pick up Pair in Fifth for 3-2 Win

The Iowa Cubs defeated the Nashville Sounds 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. The Cubs improved to 74-54 with the win.

Iowa took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Micah Hoffpauir led off with a walk. A wild pitch advanced him to second base before Bryan LaHair's RBI single gave Iowa the lead.

Nashville's Adam Stern doubled to start the fifth inning. Erick Almonte hit a two-run homer, giving the Sounds the 2-1 advantage.

A pair of fifth-inning runs allowed Iowa to reclaim the lead, 3-2. LaHair, who was 2-for-2, led off with a double. Chris Robinson reached on a fielder's choice and moved LaHair to third. Next batter, Matt Camp doubled, scoring LaHair to tie the game, 2-2. Robinson scored the go-ahead run on Ty Wright's groundout. It was all Iowa would need as they beat Nashville, 3-2.

Jay Jackson picked up the win (10-8, 4.27), his 10th of the year. He allowed two runs on six hits over five innings pitched. Jeff Stevens earned his fifth save, throwing a scoreless ninth inning. Marty McLeary (6-8, 6.82) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs in six innings.

The Cubs and Sounds meet again Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Principal Park.
