San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 26, 2008) - After San Antonio dominated Iowa 5-1 Saturday night, the Chops turned the net over to goalie David LeNeveu, who returned to San Antonio and helped defeat his former team 2-1 Sunday night at the AT&T Center. LeNeveu, who was traded last season after two and a half years with the Rampage, saved 23 of 24 shots to earn the win.

Iowa forward Bobby Ryan scored two goals including the game winner. The number two overall pick in the 2005 draft, Ryan, scored his team leading fourth and fifth goals for Iowa who averted the weekend sweep with the win.

Ryan's first goal came while shooting from the side of the net and catching the skate of Rampage defenseman Drew Fata who deflected the puck off the leg pad of goalie Al Montoya to ricochet for a power-play goal and 1-0 lead at the 6:05 mark in the second period.

Later in the period, Rampage forward Jeff Hoggan knotted the score with a beautiful wrister from the left circle at 17:38 to make it 1-1 going into the third frame.

But Ryan continued the third period woes for San Antonio scoring the game winner off forward T.J. Trevelyan's second assist of the night. San Antonio has been outscored in the third period 10-2 this season.

Power plays were the story of the game for San Antonio. The Rampage came into the game ranked first in the AHL for team penalty killing at over 90 percent but gave up a goal on only six Iowa power plays. Meanwhile, Iowa came into the weekend series dead last in team penalty killing and shut out San Antonio on eight chances including two five-on-three advantages.

Montoya stopped 18 of 20 shots in the net as San Antonio outshot the Chops 24-20.

San Antonio returns to the ice this weekend with a Friday and Saturday back-to-back series at the AT&T Center versus two Eastern Conference opponents. Friday, Halloween night, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton visits at 7 p.m. and Saturday the puck drops at 7 p.m. for a matchup with the Providence Bruins.
