Trevelyan, LeNeveu help Chops rebound to win on Sunday

October 26, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

A goal and an assist from TJ Trevelyan, a power play goal from Bobby Ryan and 23 saves by goaltender David LeNeveu helped the Iowa Chops to a 2-1 win in San Antonio on Sunday. The Iowa Chops penalty kill was 8 for 8 and marked the first time this season that the Chops did not give up a power play goal.

Two big differences from Saturday's game to Sunday's game was the Chops ability to kill penalties early and often and some timely saves by LeNeveu. After a scoreless 1st period, in which the Chops killed off four penalties, the Chops got on the board first on their fourth power play of the night. Some work to keep the puck alive down low in the Rampage by Joakim Lindstrom and TJ Trevelyan led to a chance from Bobby Ryan, which rebounded just wide of the net. Ryan picked up his rebound from behind the net and banked it off of Rampage goaltender Al Montoya as he struggled to get back into position. It was Ryan's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Rampage tied the game later in the period as Jeff Hoggan came down the left side on a 2 on 1 and fired a snapshot over the glove of David LeNeveu. The 3rd period saw the most 5 on 5 hockey of the two games, and the Chops retook the lead five minutes in as TJ Trevelyan spun around and fired a wrist shot over the glove of Montoya with assists from Andrew Ebbett and Joakim Lindstrom. The Chops, helped by LeNeveu and a solid penalty kill held the fort the remainder of the game, having to kill off a 5 on 3 late in the game.

The win is the fifth of the season for the Chops, who sit four points behind division-leading Rockford.

The end of the current Texas roadswing comes on Tuesday night when the Chops travel to Houston to take on the Aeros for the first time this season. Face-off time is 7:05pm.
