Columbus Assigns Defenseman Kris Russell and Adds Goalie Dan LaCosta to Roster on Emergency Recall

Syracuse, NY (October 26, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Kris Russell to the Crunch. In addition, Columbus has added goaltender Dan LaCosta to its roster on emergency recall.

Russell, 21, has appeared in five games with Columbus this season, notching one assist. Over the past two seasons, he has skated in 72 games for the Blue Jackets, collecting two goals, nine assists and 14 penalty minutes. A native of Caroline, Alberta, Russell was drafted by Columbus in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

LaCosta, 22, has appeared in five games for the Crunch this season, compiling a 5-0-0 record with a 2.08 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. He has also skated in one contest for Columbus this year, playing 35 minutes at Nashville on October 18 in relief of starter Fredrik Norrena, stopping 15 of 17 shots. A native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, LaCosta was selected by Columbus in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
