Houston's John Lammers and Marco Rosa broke up the Marlies three markers by scoring at 7:40 and 11:02 respectively in the period. Lammers' came during a four-on-four situation. Deveaux's final goal finished the period scoring with the Marlies taking a 5-3 lead into the intermission.

Houston put forth a comeback effort when Maxim Noreau converted on a power-play with a slap shot over the shoulder of Toronto netminder Justin Pogge at 11:18 in the final frame. Brandon Rogers earned the lone assist on the goal. The Aeros came back with a number of opportunities including a late 6-on-4 situation after Aeros' goaltender Nolan Schaefer had been pulled for the extra attacker but didn't manage the tying goal.
