Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated for the third time in a row, suffering a 2-0 loss to the Quad City Flames. After two periods of impressive goaltending, in front of 3,925 at Copps Coliseum, the Flames picked up two points to clinch the win on a pair of goals in the third period.

The ‘Dogs and the Flames were scoreless in the first two periods as Hamilton starting goaltender, Marc Denis, and Quad City starting goaltender, Matt Keetley, kept both teams off the score sheet. Keetley had the majority of the work, facing 28 shots through two periods of play as the Flames were penalized a total of five times. The Bulldogs were unable to convert on the ensuing power plays, including a brief five on three. Marc Denis was equally sharp, stopping the 18 shots he faced through 40 minutes.

The goaltending duel continued through the third period as Denis made a pair of scrambling saves at the 12:30 mark, including a diving glove save, to hold off a flurry of offence from Quad City.

The Flames finally broke the goose egg at 9:03 of the final frame. Warren Peters collected the puck on the right side board before twisting around and firing a shot towards the net. The puck sailed through traffic and just by the blocker of Denis, who looked surprised by the shot. Brett Sutter and Anders Eriksson earned assists on the play.

Quad City struck again five minutes later, with Kyle Greentree banging home a rebound past a sprawled Denis, giving the Flames a 2-0 lead over Hamilton. Dan Ryder and Brett Palin both tallied assists on the goal. The ‘Dogs couldn't recover from the deficit, despite a handful of quality scoring chances throughout the game.
