Iowa Energy Fall to Fort Wayne on Last Second Shot

DES MOINES, IA, December 19, 2013 - The Iowa Energy fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 117-115 at Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday.

The Iowa Energy jumped out early, and led 34 to 23 after the first quarter. Jarvis Varnado had 13 points in the first quarter.

The second quarter featured multiple runs by both teams, as Fort Wayne started the quarter with an 11-5 run. The Energy answered by scoring 7 straight points. Fort Wayne then cut the lead to one after going on an 11-0 run and led 59-53 at halftime.

Iowa's Othyus Jeffers scored 14 of his 23 points in the third quarter and the Energy led 89-86 after the third quarter. The final quarter was back and forth between the two teams.

Fort Wayne's Sadiel Rojas missed two free throws, and Iowa's Patrick Christopher hit a 3 pointer to tie the game at 115 with 1.3 seconds to go. The Mad Ants' Ron Howard hit a jump shot from the right side as time expired to give Fort Wayne the 117-115 victory.

6 Mad Ants finished in double figures, led by Howard, who finished with 24 points. Olek Czyz had 21 points, and Will Frisby added 20 points off the bench.

The Energy were led by Christopher, who finished with 27 points. Varnado had 23 points, 20 boards, and 7 blocks. Jeffers had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
