
Iowa Energy Fall in Overtime to Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Iowa Energy (4-1) fell 106-104 to the Grand Rapids Drive (2-3) Saturday night at the DeltaPlex Arena.
The Energy were led by Andrew Harrison with a team-high 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. Perry Jones III and Terry Whisnant each added 16 points and Alex Stepheson added a double-double 14 points and 17 rebounds. Seven of the nine active Energy players scored in double digits. The Drive were led by Kelsey Barlow with a game-high 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Iowa started the game hot, jumping out to an early 15-point lead. Grand Rapids shot just four of 19 in the quarter. Lazeric Jones led the Energy with seven points and Stepheson added six points and seven rebounds. Iowa held a 23-16 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Drive were able to climb back into the game in the second with five 3-pointers, three coming from Stefhon Hannah. Grand Rapids continued with their hot shooting to briefly open up a 15-point to hold a 54-46 lead at halftime.
The Drive continued with the hot shooting to start the second half. Grand Rapids would open up a 24-point lead with 3:37 to play in the third. Whisnant would enter the game for the Energy and hit three 3-pointers in a row to jump-start a 16-3 Iowa run to end the third. Iowa trailed 78-67 heading into the fourth. Iowa continued the run to start the fourth on a 17-3 run and regained the lead with 8:10 to play thanks to a 33-6 run beginning with 3:37 left in the third. It remained a tight game down the stretch with Lazeric Jones tying the game with :7.4 to play to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Energy and Drive would exchange baskets until Grand Rapids took the lead 106-104 with :53.0 left to play. Lazeric Jones had a chance to tie the game as time expired, but missed the shot and the Energy fell 106-104.
The Energy travel to Erie on Dec. 3 for game two of a three-game road trip before returning home Wed., Dec. 9 at 7pm.
