Vipers Fall 126-109 to Los Angeles D-Fenders

HIDALGO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-2) fell 126-109 to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (6-2) tonight at State Farm Arena. The Vipers split this back-to-back series with the D-Fenders following Friday night's 123-108 overtime win.

Raphiael Putney led with Vipers with a career-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds. Chris Walker scored a double-double 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jarvis Threatt tallied 18 points. Jaron Johnson scored 13 points, followed by Will Cummings with 12 points.

Malcolm Thomas led the D-Fenders with 28 points and 18 rebounds. Manny Harris followed with 23 points. Vander Blue added 21 points. Los Angeles Lakers assignee Anthony Brown scored 18 points. Josh Magette and Justin Harper recorded 10 points each.

Los Angeles won the first quarter, 35-30 behind 10 points apiece from Harris and Thomas. Threatt also scored 10 of his 18 total points in the first quarter to lead RGV.

The Vipers fought back to outscore the D-Fenders 24-19 in the second quarter. Los Angeles' 19 second quarter points were the lowest scored in a quarter by a Vipers opponent this season. At the buzzer, Putney connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 54 points at the half.

The score tied five times during the third quarter before the D-Fenders took control. Los Angeles outscored RGV 72-55 in the second half to win the game 126-109 and split the weekend series.

The Vipers are back in action twice at home next weekend. On Friday, Dec. 4 they host the Reno Bighorns at 7 p.m. (CST) at State Farm Arena. Then on Sunday, Dec. 6, RGV will host the Idaho Stampede in a 3 p.m. (CST) matinee.
