Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. (August 23, 2015) - Rain stopped Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader with the Kannapolis Intimidators and Savannah Sand Gnats with the score tied, 1-1, after five innings at Historic Grayson Stadium in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Because this final regular season game between Kannapolis and Savannah is unable to be made up, the game officially ended in a tie, snapping Savannah's streak of 18 consecutive wins.
Kannapolis starting pitcher Thad Lowry opened with four scoreless, hitless innings before giving up a leadoff double to John Mora in the bottom of the fifth. Mora scored on a Tomas Nido RBI-groundout to tie the game, 1-1.
The Intimidators broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning thanks to Louie Lechich's team-leading 64th RBI. With men on second and third base, Lechich grounded a ball back to pitcher Martires Arias, and Hunter Jones broke from third base to home. Arias threw behind Jones to third baseman JC Rodriguez, who fired wide of home as Jones slid across the plate for a 1-0 lead.
Arias struck out six and walked four while giving up a run on three hits over five innings of work.
The game was the Intimidators' final contest in Historic Grayson Stadium against Savannah. Following the season, the Sand Gnats are moving to Columbia, S.C., to begin play as the Fireflies next season. Kannapolis will make its first visit to face the Columbia Fireflies for a four-game series April 29-May 2, 2016.
Kannapolis returns to Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on Tuesday, August 25, to open a four-game home stand against Delmarva. The Intimidators send RHP Luis Martinez (4-12, 5.64 ERA) to the mound against Delmarva's RHP Dariel Delgado (5-3, 3.51 ERA). Tuesday's game is Social Media Night, and Intimidators fans can purchase a Social Media ticket package that includes a reserved seat, a hat, and food voucher for only $10. Tuesday's game is also a Two-for-Tuesday presented by Arby's with 2-for-1 tickets with any Arby's proof-of-purchase.
