
Intimidators Come up Empty with Runners in Scoring Position

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators struggled at the plate against the Asheville Tourists, dropping Saturday night's game, 5-1, at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators managed just four hits and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, leaving eight men on base.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Intimidators threatened with runners on first and second with one out, but Tourists starting pitcher Joshua Slaats struck out the next two batters to end the inning. In the sixth, Slaats walked the first three batters to load the bases, but Drew Lee popped out, and reliever Taylor Reid induced an inning-ending double play to keep Kannapolis off the board.
Slaats (3-1) tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts to earn the win. Reid pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, and Kraig Sitton worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to end the game.
Dexter Carter made his second quality start of the year for Kannapolis in a losing effort. Carter (2-3) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts, no walks and two hit batters in seven innings, his longest outing of the season.
The Tourist struck first for the second straight night. Kyle Parker singled to lead off the second inning and advanced to third on Corey Dickerson's double behind him. Parker scored on a Dominic Altobelli fielder's choice, and Dickerson came home on a Kevin Dubler throwing error for a 2-0 lead.
Kannapolis answered on Juan Silverio's fifth triple of the season in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Marcus Semien from first. Asheville tacked on another run in the top of the third when Parker singled home Cristhian Adames to reclaim a two-run advantage, 3-1. Asheville added runs in the seventh and ninth to bring the game to its 5-1 score.
The Intimidators conclude the three-game series against the Asheville Tourists on Sunday night with the team's Independence Weekend Post- Game Fireworks Spectacular, presented by the City of Kannapolis.
